An Alberta-based program designed to assist employers to proactively recruit foreign skilled workers and ease the work permit process for the foreign employees might ultimately bring thousands of new immigrants to the province, Calgary Herald reports. This pilot program, according to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, will also help Canada to address its shortage of skilled workers, especially in such fields as welding, carpentry, heavy duty mechanics, ironworks etc. The pilot program allows the skilled workers in the “in demand” fields to be issued work permits without a special authorization from Ottawa that significantly simplifies the work permit process.
