According to the poll published today in the National Post, 50% of Canadians who were born here believe that newcomers should only be welcomed from some countries, and 44% of those who were born elsewhere stated the same.
The poll also showed that 62% of Canadians felt that immigrants to Canada should abandon their native cultural values if they conflict with those of Canada. Mr. Jedwab of the Association for Canadian Studies, suggest that the main concern is for those cultures that do not share our gender equality values. However, while this concern should not be dismissed, Mr. Jedwab is of the opinion that it is not that strong to prompt us to rethink our immigration policy.
Would Minister Kenney agree?
