$400,000 was spent on developing the new immigration guide, the Globe and Mail reports. The guide is designed to help newcomers navigate their new life in Canada. The guide includes practical information about finding housing, health care services, education system, tipping etiquette, driving on snowy roads, etc.
Additionally, it unequivocally explains that polygamy and forced marriages are illegal in Canada. The guide also spells out that female genital mutilation and honour killings – labelled as “barbaric” by Mr. Kenney – would not be tolerated by the Canadian society.
The guide can be downloaded in pdf format from the CIC website and, as Minister Kenney noted, could be reviewed by newcomers en route (provided they own iPads, of course).
