The National Post reports that the new Faster Removal of Foreign Criminals Act introduced by Ottawa Conservative legislation yesterday aims on cutting off avenues for convicted criminals to appeal their deportation. The current law allows any foreign national convicted of criminal offence and sentenced up to two years in prison in Canada to appeal the automatic deportation order on the humanitarian and compassionate grounds. The new law is supposed to cut off that right to sentences of six months and up. The new law will also affect those found inadmissible to Canada on the basis of security, rights violation or organized crime – and their families.
